A rainy Friday

Once again I've gone far too long in between blog posts, and I've been completely negligent in posting pictures to show the progress of my baby belly.  I do have some pictures taken, but Flickr Uploader isn't behaving, so I'm going to have to try to wrestle it into submission over the weekend.

When I wait this long in between posts, a lot of little things happen that seem like good post ideas at the time, but after several days have passed, I feel like I missed the window.  Here's random assortment of what's rumbling around in my head today:

  • We're celebrating my grandma's 80th birthday this weekend.  I think it's a surprise party, but I'm not 100% sure...
  •  I really need to learn how to use my camera better before the baby comes.  I bought a digital camera book and I'm planning to work through it with my blog-friend Stephanie.  But, that requires that I turn off the TV at some point and actually read a book...
  • And if I do that, I should probably be reading my Hypnobabies lesson and finding the time to listen to two 40-minute CD tracks each day.  (My commute time would be perfect, but apparently hypnotizing yourself while driving isn't such a great idea.)
  • I guess at some point, I should actually attempt to educate myself on basic infant care, since I am completely clueless when it comes to taking care of a baby.  Feeding 8-12 times a day?  Honestly, I have tried and tried to wrap my head around that, and I really can't fathom how it's possible.  (I mean, to do that and get anything else done, like sleeping for example.)
  • My January goals were a bit ambitious... in future months I just need to pick one thing - one EASY thing - and try to do that.  This month, the one goal I've been able to manage pretty regularly is getting to bed by 10:30.  And really, I love sleep so that's barely even a challenge for me.  Daily exercise?  A great idea when the weather is good, but 2 weeks of 10-20 degree temps make it difficult to get outside for a quick walk around the neighborhood.  (I have been going to preggo water aerobics, though!  It's one time in the week that I get to talk baby stuff without fear of boring other people to tears.  Well, that and phone calls with my sister.)
  • The quilt top that I started making squares for a couple of weeks ago is all done.  I'm working on the back now - it's going to be stripes of all the leftover fabric from the jelly roll.  It should be pretty cute.
If you've made it this far, you deserve a prize!  (Sorry, I don't have any prizes to give you.)  But I really, really promise this time that I'll get some belly pics posted soon and hopefully I'll get back on a more regular schedule for blogging.  It's the only journal-type thing I have, so I feel like I should post fairly regularly so I have some kind of record of my life right now.

Have a great weekend!

The chapters in that book are really short - just a couple of pages. So, before next week, you have to read the first 2 chapters! Trust me, you can do it. =)

Happy Birthday to your Grandma! Whoot! Have a great time at her party.
I should probably dig out, er find my camera's manual. Most days I hate how grainy my pictures turn out. Mike says it’s because I mess with the settings (I.hate.flash) I say it’s because it’s a crappy point and shoot. ;)
You are totally over thinking it. As long as you have 3-4 packs of newborn diapers & wipes you are set for the first 3 weeks. After the little babe is born (this is if your having your baby at a hospital) ask the nursing staff if they can show you how to give your baby a sponge bath. My tip, always wash the head last. Because when the head is wet the kid is cold. But really when the baby cries it’s a guessing game of what’s wrong. Over time you’ll figure out what cry means what, just like how you learn to live with a person you learn their likes. I always went with “lets check the diaper first” before offering food. Have you heard of the website babycenter.com? I was on it every day when I was pregnant with all my kids. Granted with the last two it was to see what was happening during that week of pregnancy. You sleep when the baby sleeps, so yeah unless you’re lucky you won't be getting a big chunk (aka 6hours) until 4-6 months I love my sleep, LOVE my sleep, this was hard for me. But making sure you take time for yourself is super important. Besides someone else needs to have a chance to hold him!
Preggo water aerobics sounds like fun!
Love the idea for the back of your son's quilt! It’s going to be great when it’s done.
PS. A lot of people told me after my kids where born that I held them too much. Granted I did, but you can only hold your baby for so long before they grow up. I took full advantage and held them as long as I could. One would think they would have suffered some psychological issue from this! But they all love hugs and are very sweet kids.

Such an exciting time! About your fourth bullet... baby care gets learned fast since feeding and diapering and swaddling etc. are about all you do all day for the first 2 months. You'll have so much fun, and it'll be so hard... ; ) I will admit to not getting too much sleep. My grandmother would have been 97 this month and her best advice to me was "sleep when the baby sleeps." Seriously, no exceptions. Even for laundry. Especially for dusting ; ) Grandmas have special powers.

I had no idea what to do with Tammy when she was born - I knew food went in one end and came out the other and that was pretty much it. I guess I eventually learned - she was truly my guinea pig but she didn't know any better and neither will little boy Kerner.

You're smarter than the average bear - you'll do great! Relax and enjoy - and follow that advice to sleep when he does.

I can help educate you on baby care...show up any time-I could use a day off!! ;)

Seriously, you'll be a great mom! I relied a lot on my What to Expect the First Year & breastfeeding book a lot with Ally. (And yeah...8-12 feedings a day consumes all your time...it's amazing how your body can function on small bursts of sleep for an extended time...yawn)

Aww, you look so cute!

Hey! If you have any questions at all about camera stuff, shoot them to me. I'd love to help! What kind of camera are you using?
