Ever since I got my new camera* last year for my birthday last year, I’ve struggled with learning how to use all of it’s whiz-bang features. It’s clearly a much better camera than my previous little point-and-shoot, but seems like a waste to leave such a good camera on automatic all the time.

I was discussing my dilemma with Stephanie (who my husband refers to as my “book buddy” since apparently a book club of two people doesn’t count as a club) and she had been wanting to work on her photography skills, too. We decided as would work through a photography book together, and get together (via Google Video Chat) and discuss each week.
Last week was Shooting Flowers Like a Pro. A lot of the tips in the book require gear that I’m not ready to invest in yet (macro lens, tripod, etc – camera stuff is expensive!) but I’m trying to glean what I can from it.
My favorite side-effect of this project so far is that I got a bunch of fresh flowers on my kitchen table for the week. But I am also happy that it got me to play with my camera on one of the few bright days we’ve had this week, and I am looking forward to improving my photography, if nothing else just from using my camera more often!
LOVE these shots. This is my new homepage. Those happen to be my fave flower.
Nice work!
Those shots are lovely! Playing around is how I’ve been figuring my camera out – don’t know if I’ll ever have it down.
