Lincoln Memorial
Oh, I can’t wait. My husband and I are taking a vacation to DC in less than two weeks. I’ve never been there before, so I’m really excited about seeing the White House and all the monuments, not to mention the Smithsonian and maybe the Zoo! I also might get to meet up with some bloggers and tour the DC yarn shops…. right, Lolly?Anyway, if anyone lives in DC or has visited recently, let me know what I should do! I will be there for a week in early May.

The Vietnam Memorial is a must...it was very moving, as is Arlington National Cemetery. How long are you going for? If I remember correctly, the Smithsonian is actually something like 14 separate museums. You might want to look it up beforehand and narrow it down to a few that you really want to see. Write to your congressperson now and you might be able to get a tour of the Capitol as well. Have fun!

Hi Zarah! Wow, you just did a half-marathon!! I'm soooooooooo impressed. I just feel like if I plod ahead and train for it, I can do it ... and it of course coincides with bikini weather. :) I'm so glad I'm in the yarn swap again ... I had a lot of fun this month. (To be blogged about soon ...)

Most definitely, Zarah! I meant to email you sooner - sorry about that. I actually took Thursday and Friday off of that week, so if you have those days free, we could make some plans!
I hope the weather cooperates!
Are you sticking around that weekend Sheep and Wool festival?

DC is one of my favorite places to visit! One place that I really enjoy is the "Women in Military Service for America Memorial" which is at Arlington - a very interesting museum - http://www.womensmemorial.org/
Have a wonderful trip!

Re:Maryland S&W- tell your husband that the food is great and there are lots of shady spots to sit and lots of other patient spouses to sit and talk baseball (or whatever)with. Posted here because I can't get it to post on the first entry.

One of my DC favorites is the Textile Museum over on S St. It's a small jewel of a museum. Currently they have an exhibit of some of their rarely seen pieces and the show of embroideries from the Greek islands that is beautiful. In a town full of wonderfully curated museums this is one of the best. Whatever you choose you will enjoy it- DC is a great museum town.

OOH! DC is so much fun - I live 20 minutes away on a good traffic day, 90 minutes away on a bad one.
Although the cherry blossoms peak is over, it is still nice to walk through the Basin area. There is also a nice jogging trail there. You might also want to visit Old Town Alexandria, it is really a cute area, and Knit Happens is right there!

Hi! It's Beth from the LYS sale. The view from the top of the Old Post Office, just a couple of blocks off the Mall, is fantastic! Not sure how it is post-911 but used to be able to go to the open air deck on top for a great look around. Lines are usually lots shorter than Washington Monument, too. It was free when I was there last but that has been at least 7 years ago. Any Smithsonian is worth it if you like museums. Of course, the Lincoln Memorial is amazing, and I had a religious experience at the Jefferson Memorial. Lots of great restaurants all over, too. Beautiful view from back porch of Mt. Vernon. I could go on...sigh. Have a wonderful time! PS Ooh, just read the post on the textile museum--YES!
