Spring knitting

Lolly just emailed me and told me that my Washington DC trip coincides with Maryland Sheep & Wool.... but my husband isn't too keen on that idea. "We don't plan our vacation around yarn," he says. ("Ha!" I say to myself, but that's okay. We'll just let him go on believing that.)

Any ideas to convince him that I should go?

In other news, Orangina has been restarted and I've knit about 6 inches - only 11 more to go on the front! (Cringe.) The good thing is I will hopefully have lots of knitting time on our trip to Washington - I bought Addi Naturas just for the plane trip.

I did plan to write about my spring/summer knitting plans when I started this post... let's see:

1.  Orangina - This has been started (and restarted) in Rowan 4-ply cotton.  I have done several blocking sessions and this yarn doesn't seem to "grow" like other cottons I've used.  Maybe because it's such a tight ply.

2.  I bought some pink Rowan Cotton Tape from Elann (50% off until they run out!) - I have big plans to make a  tank top of some sort.  My friend Meredith has the Cotton Tape Collection book, so I'll see what my options are.  That should be a quick knit.

3.  I have some cotton/nylon sock yarn to try out summer sock knitting - I've only ever used superwash wool.  Hopefully they won't be too baggy.

4.  Last but not least, I got 3 skeins of navy Cotton Fleece from my secret pal... another tank top?  I'm thinking about playing around with designing something myself.  I have an idea in my head, I'm just not sure how to go about getting it out into stitches.

Better break that guy in right, right now! Of course, all our trips are based around yarn, fly fishing, and hunting. You can share your vacations, even if it is not in the same year. Have a good trip, wish I could go, too.

Is there any chance that there's something else at MD S&W that might interest your husband? My husband could care less about yarn, but he'd watch sheepdog trials or other events. Alternatively, maybe there's a sporting event or museum nearby that he could check out. My husband loves to check out minor league baseball when we travel.

Maybe you could tell him that there will be stuff that will educate him about the history of, I don't know, shepherding there. Do you think that will work?

I agree with Susan, your hubby might like the demonstrations, the animals in the barns, the food (maybe he can pick you up some sheep cheese before it runs out like it did last year). Or, he could drop you off and go check out Baltimore. You can't be in the area and NOT go to sheep and wool, it's not an option! You should come to the blogger meetup, too.
I have many suggestions for DC, I'll email you a few.

I love bleeding hearts. They feel so... Confederate to me.

I, too am working with some cotton yarn. Several different ones, actually. I have found so far that Meilenweit Cotton is my favorite -- pretty stretchy. I don't love Brown Sheep Wildfoote as much. I also have some Regia Cotton, which kind of feels somewhere in the middle as far as stretchiness. I think it makes a difference WHICH cotton sock yarn you've got. Although any of them can work (I made some socks out of Tahki Classic Cotton last year. I had to add elastic to the cuffs, but they're still working!)

Oh, you must go. So I can live vicariously through you. Looks like you have some great projects planned, and I love the bleeding heart.

Well, yep, I'd also say that you could try to get him with the farming part of it all, shepherding or such, the educational part - isn't that the stuff all men get tears of joy in their eyes with? :) I have all my fingers crossed that you'll convince him to go there!
Wow, you sure have quite some projects planned for summer, can't wait to see all the progress pics!
Oh, and the Bleeding Heart is so beautiful, I didn't even know it was called like that - what a beautiful name!

Hi! I just found your blog today so I thought I'd comment to say hi. I love your work and your projects are beautiful! Thanks for the tip on the Rowan tape on Elann. I just bought a bunch to work on something out of the tape book. With that Cotton Fleece...have you seen Green Gables at http://www.zephyrstyle.com/home.html? I don't know if that's your style or not but it's something to do with that yarn!

Love the bleeding hearts Sarah. How lucky to have them in your back yard. You are so lucky to be going on vacay. I hope ya'll have a great time!!!

Your bleeding heart is gorgeous! Look forward to seeing your design with the Cotton Fleece. You'll have a blast in DC -- perfect time of year to visit!

Everybody else offered some good suggestions... there are many things there that he might enjoy. If he is anything like my husband, the whole food thing might appeal to him! Will you have a rental car? It's possible we could meet up before (Jenna will most likely be coming to my place too) and then we can go together... just a thought.

I agree that you just can't miss Sheep & Wool. There are things for hubby to do there, as everyone else has mentioned, or he could find something else to amuse him in the area.

Next year, I think we need to work out a "husband's" area with XBox and Playstation, a car show, and fishing...
