We have reached Knitting Nirvana

The Mason-Dixon girls are at it again - this time they've whipped up The Perfect Sweater, a sweater designed by blogommittee back in the pre-book days before we all knew the wonders of Peaches 'n' Cream Cotton.  The sweater is knit with Cascade 220, and there are a couple of shops offering great deals on it in conjunction with the release of this pattern. (Click on the link above for more info, you yarn hos!)

Someday I would like to knit this nice basic sweater for myself - I think I would wear it a ton - but first, I have a few sweaters' worth of yarn to deal with!

Exhibit A:  4 skeins of green Cascade 220 Quattro, destined to become Forecast.

Sorry for the crappy photo, it's rainy out today.

As you can see, I've knitted up to where the sleeve cap shaping begins on both sleeves.  Here's my question:  I blocked them, and they are 1-2 inches too long.  Should I rip back at this point, or keep going and see if it works itself out once the sleeve cap is on and set into the armhole?  I've only made one other sweater with set-in sleeves, so I'm fairly clueless about this.  I would really appreciate any advice you could give me!

Knitting Plans

What's more fun than knitting? Well, if you're my husband, that would be almost anything. But for me, well.... there's not much. It's true. I am a total knitting addict. But if I had to pick something, it would be:

Planning new knitting projects!

I know, that probably doesn't count. But it is so exciting for me. Almost like planning a vacation or something. Ever since I finished the Knitting Olympics, I've had a serious case of startitis, but nothing to start! You know what that means.... it's yarn shoppin' time!

I am one of those knitters that doesn't buy yarn unless I have a plan for it. Not always a pattern - but definitely a plan. That yarn will be a cool scarf. This yarn will definitely be something felted. You get the idea. But a few weeks ago I was at Simply Fibers and there was some Cascade Quattro on sale - 30% off! Cascade is such great yarn. Nothing fancy, but extremely versatile. I figured, at that price, what the heck. I found a color I liked and bought all four skeins. Then I started thinking, ummm.... that's not enough for a sweater. How many felted bags does a person need? And that could make a heckuvalotta hats!

So yesterday I posted a picture of my forlorn yarn, so sad without a project to call its very own. And the delightful Jennifer from Craftylily came up with the perfect idea: Forecast from the latest Knitty.

I usually look through all the Knitty patterns right when they come out - but somehow I had not even looked at this one. It's perfect - a really interesting sweater designed by Stefanie Japel of Glampyre Knits. AND guess what - it calls for 4 skeins of Cascade 220! Clearly, it was meant to be.  Don't you just love a happy ending?

Socks for the new year

jaywalkerflat.jpg

I know, I know. Everybody's doing it, it's this year's Crap-o-tee, etc. But I want to knit me some Jaywalkers. They're still really cool socks! And designed by Grumperina, no less. (Maybe just to prove that I knit cooler than thou, I shall dub them "Jayhawkers." The ultimate insult! (KU is my college rival, FYI.)

My So-Called Scarf

I've seen this pattern quite a bit, and it might finally help me overcome my fear of vareigated yarn! I give you My So-Called Scarf!

We have a KAL

picovolipicot.jpg

The Sexy Knitters Club has chosen its first Knit Along... The Picovoli tee by the extremely creative Grumperina. I have been wanting to knit this pattern for quite a while, so I'm really glad it's what we picked. The KAL starts in January (thank goodness!)

The original yarn in the pattern is Debbie Bliss Cathay, which is kind of expensive, so I think I'm going to go with the suggested substitute yarn, KnitPicks Shine. Any suggestions on color?

I'm thinking either:

S E X X Y

Jeanie's new project, Sexy Knitters Club, is turning out to be quite an inspiration for me! The original idea behind the group was to dispel the myth that all knitters are grandmas in rocking chairs -- in fact, we are a bunch of pretty rockin' chicks!

Right now, we are nominating patterns for our first SKC knitalong. I am just so impressed with the number of beautiful and affordable patterns out there, all very flattering the the female form. Whatever we choose for our KAL, here are some of the patterns I hope to knit:

Cozy

Purly Whites' version of Cozy is so pretty -- it's definitely going on my "to-knit" list.
