Knit Together
Anxiousdog Kate has put together a new knit night for the Springfield-area knitting crowd... here's the details:
Knit Together
Psalm 139:13 (NIV) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
Where: Park Crest Assembly - Fireside Room
When: Every Thursday Night starting at 6pm
Calling all Knitters & Future Knitters! Come to meet new friends, cast on for the first time, show off your latest knit, cuddle with your yarn, get some help with your project, and learn new knitting techniques!
We will be offering fun knit-alongs, games, and prizes! So whether you’re a newbie or veteran knitter, grab a friend and come knit with us!
I'll be there tomorrow, after having sushi with my husband and some friends. Hopefully I'll see you there! (Except you, Tammy. You'll just have to suffer in North Carolina. Terrible, just terrible.)

Knit In Tonight!
Woo hoo! I get ridiculously excited about these Knit-Ins, but when else do I get to be surrounded by so many kindred knitter souls AND so much yarn? It's so fun. Plus, I always want to show off a project, so I get really motivated to get something finished or start something cool.
That's just a little hint that I've been knitting as fast as a can to finish a certain project I've been working on for a really long time, which will have its debut at the Knit-In tonight! A full blog report will be forthcoming, but there's something really special about revealing a finished project in person, to people who can really appreciate it. Plus, I think the shop owner will probably appreciate it, since customers really seem to go crazy for a project after they've seen it in person.
Since that project is finished (at least the knitting part), what will I work on at the Knit In? I know I should work on one of those sweaters....... maybe I'll take the shrug with me..... but I really want to work on those pretty socks I started!

Local knitbloggers
Hooray for local knitting friends:
Brianne - she's pregnant and just got in a car accident. But her husband/guest-blogger assures us she's okay.
Tammy - my knitting partner in crime - we are totally each other's knitting enablers!
Lana - the most prolific charity knitter I've ever met!
and the new kid on the block - Meredith! (She's only been blogging for about a month - go say hi and give her some encouragement!)
Anyone else out there that I haven't met yet?

Put your hand upon my KIP, when you KIP, I KIP, we KIP
Did you knit in public over the weekend? I did!
First, I met with my friend Adrianna and local Springfield knitblogger Lana at Sequiota Park. I was a little disappointed that more people didn't show up (I had posted a sign for it in the local yarn shop) but maybe knitting outside in 90 degree weather didn't sound too pleasant to most people. =)
Actually, though, we found a spot in the shade and it was very pleasant. I worked a little on the blue Trekking sock and Lana was making a baby blanket for the Preemie Project. Lana's husband took picture for us, but mine turned out really dark - you can see a better photo on her blog here. I also got to meet Lana's three sons, who are adorable and amazingly well-behaved.
Luckily for me, the knitting day was not over! I went to see the Springfield Cardinals (a Double A team associated with the St. Louis Cardinals) later that night with the young adult group from my church. We had General Admission seating, so we spread out blankets and the grass and watched for fly balls! We were meeting early for some reason, so I brought my knitting to pass the time. While I was there, I finshing the first Trekking sock! I'm a little mad at it right now, since I had some *issues* starting the second sock (oops, I knit two rounds with the long tail instead of the yarn from the ball) so I will most likely have to rip that out. But maybe we will become friends again and I'll post a picture later.
PS to all Springfield-area knitters - want to have a Knit at the Ballpark night sometime?

Show-Me Knitting 2006
You know it's coming... World-Wide Knit In Public Day, June 10 2006!
So, what do you have planned? Brianne and I have decided we need to organize an event for the Springfield / Missouri Ozarks knitters out there, so here's the plan:
Meet us at 2 pm on Saturday, June 10 on the lawn at Sequiota Park (bring your own blanket or lawn chair) for a knitting, crocheting, and spinning extravaganza! (any spinners out there?) Rain location: The Library Station (on South Campbell) (edited 5/23/06 - because the library is more public than the yarn shop).
Hopefully I'll get my butt in gear and make up some flyers to post in the local yarn shops. I hope lots of people will be able to come! Tell your Ozarkian friends...!

New Knitters Everywhere!
Yesterday my knitting group met at Panera for some ridiculously enormous cookies and knitting fun. My friend Kristin recently found out she is having a baby, so I guess the nesting instinct kicked in and she decided she wanted to learn to knit. I brought some basic supplies for her, and showed her how to cast on and the basic knit stitch. She picked it up really quickly, and had a cute little square of garter stitch going before I knew it! So I went ahead and taught her how to purl. Again, she got it super fast! I sent her home with my well-loved copy of Stitch n Bitch.
Apparently she was doing so well that her husband decided to have a go -- great pictures and commentary here! I am not laughing at make knitters in general, but I know this guy and it's just funny. After seeing the pictures, I'm just imagining him getting all tangled up in the yarn!

Knit-In Photos
Here are some pictures I took during the Knit-In at Simply Fibers last weekend. It was a really fun event, held after-hours at my LYS here in Springfield, MO. (and there was a sale - bonus!)Of course, in typical fashion, I didn't take any pictures of myself! But you can tell everyone is having fun and getting lots of knitting done! (This was before the sale was announced - we all went from knitting mode to shopping mode very quickly after that!)
These are the nice ladies I was sitting with during the Knit-In. Can you tell that the two in the middle are mother and daughter? I think it is universal that knitters are really nice!

The Knit-In... was Awesome!

Woo hoo! Kudos to Carol for hosting an awesome 1st Annual Knit-In tonight at Simply Fibers, a great yarn store here in Springfield, MO. There were about 20-30 people there the whole time I was there, just knitting away. Then... drum roll please...
At 9pm she announced the special Knit-In Sale -- 30% off all yarn in the store. I am somewhat restricted budget-wise (just bought a house) but this is truly the chance of a lifetime, right? So I bought some really beautiful yarn from Mango Moon to make a Clapotis.

(It was still expensive, but it's made by a women's collective in Nepal. That's gotta be good karma, people.)
I also got a couple balls of Trekking XXL -- some really nice sock yarn from Germany. Here's a preview:

This might be a nice surprise for my Secret Pal, what do you think?
I got to meet Brianne in person! I think she's going to some knit with my knitting group this Sunday.

Yarn-Anon
Yes, that is a ball of yarn on fire. (Don't worry, it didn't come from my stash.)Zarah, you ask, why is your friend Justin sacrificing a ball of yarn to the knitting gods?
That is an interesting question. He is actually receiving his prize from a summer-long poker game that has been taking place at my house each time I meet with my knitting group (Yarnaholics) -- all the boys associated with the knitters come to my house and gamble. (My husband cooked this up one day when as I was leaving to go knit.) But they weren't playing for money -- oh no, they were playing for the PRIZE. You see, they call their little group Yarn-Anon: "for those coping with yarn- and yarn-related addictions." (Hee hee! I have to admit it is pretty clever.) So it is only fitting that the winner of the tournament would get to have a ritual sacrifice of the one thing that cause them all so much misery -- YARN! (That is, when they're not enjoying their lovely new woolly hats and socks and things.) =)

Yarnaholics this Sunday
Open invitation to all Ozarks knitters and crocheters:
There will be a meeting of Yarnaholics Anonymous at 2 pm this Sunday, October 9, at the Panera Bread on East Sunshine in Springfield, MO. I'm pretty sure we'll be the only ones with yarn. =)

Congratulations Emily!
My knitting group got together tonight to celebrate one of our group members passing two sections of her CPA exam. She also taught me how to cable! Emily Reese is such a multi-talented girl. I fully intended to take pictures: borrowed Matt's digital camera, bought batteries at the store... but somehow when I got to Emily's house there were no batteries in my grocery bag. Oh well, you'll just have to wait until on of our normal Sunday meetings to see the Yarnaholics in action.
