It's really, finally done!  Can you spy my perch at the bar, with my laptop?  It's funny the little things that are my favorite parts -the faucet is really cool!  (It switches from regular flow to a sprayer, and the nozzle part pulls right out of the main faucet part.)  I also really like the built-in bookcase for all of our cookbooks.  We've had that pot rack forever, but it fits in perfectly even though we didn't really plan for it.

I have to give big huge kudos to our cabinet guys, they did a beautiful job.  And now, the boring specs:  The wall color is Ruskin Room Green (Sherwin-Williams color in Behr paint), the trim is Polar Bear (Behr) and the countertop is Olive Green Silestone.

(That means I get to start thinking about decorating the nursery. Isn't this room the cutest?)

Sorry, we don't have lights yet

So the pictures are a little dark...

New windows - for real

New windows

So maybe I was just dreaming about turquoise shutters and climbing vines on my Spanish vacation home. But, I really did get new windows! I can't wait until I can replace all the windows in my house with this awesome 9-Lite Prairie style. Patience, patience.

Drywall

In "inside construction" news... drywall! I know it's an important step in the process, but oh my, is it ever dirty and dusty! To make things worse, it's been really rainy lately, so they have to crank up the heat in my house to try to get the drywall mud to dry. It's hot and gross, and I'm really glad it's going to be over soon. (Hopefully by Friday!)

Oh! See that raised section of the ceiling? That's where my kitchen is going to be.

Windows!

Storefront Window

Our contractor called me with the BEST news this morning - our new windows and doors are finally here! That means as soon as it stops raining, they will be able to start installing the windows, which means all the subsequent steps - drywall, floors, paint, cabinets, etc. - are that much closer to being started.

The contractor keeps promising that this project will be finished by Thanksgiving... I was beginning to doubt that it would happen, but the windows arriving a tiny bit early certainly increases my optimism.

Great news on an other dreary, rainy day. Hooray!

September - under construction

September memories:

  • Visiting my family for Labor Day weekend, and puking my guts out Friday night. (Isn't it sad that that's the most memorable part of the weekend?)
  • A whirlwind trip to San Francisco for work (where I sadly barely got to leave the hotel/conference center and didn't snap a single picture), but I did get to see San Francisco from the hotel's beautiful rooftop garden, and the weather was beautiful, sunny, and cool the whole time I was there.
  • Construction started on our kitchen remodel, bringing both excitement and frustration.
  • Dinners with kind friends who took pity on us and our lack of a kitchen. Still working on the art of microwave cooking. (Reheating leftover - great; creating new meals - not so great)
  • Announcing my pregnancy to friends and at work - and now to my friends on the internet!
  • Starting feeling better after several weeks of morning sickness (which was mostly in the evening, not in the morning)
  • Dark and chilly morning run/walks
  • Leading a small group at church and starting the long-term Christian Believer study, pushing me to develop better spiritual habits.

I can't wait to see what October holds!

(This post was inspired by Africankelli. If you don't read her blog, you should!)

A tour of the facilities

Again at the request of my dear sister... a photographic tour of our current living situation. Apparently it's difficult to picture from a description over the phone!

Office/Pantry

We are basically living in 3 rooms: (1) our bedroom (mostly unchanged, except for the addition of coffee table and 2 side tables from the living room), (2) spare bedroom-turned-living room and dining room (TV and folding table with the bed for our couch), and (3) guest bathroom-turned-kitchen (well, it has a microwave and a sink, at least!) with a couple of book cases set up across the hall to hold pantry items.
