Ever since I got my new camera* last year for my birthday last year, I've struggled with learning how to use all of it's whiz-bang features. It's clearly a much better camera than my previous little point-and-shoot, but seems like a waste to leave such a good camera on automatic all the time.

*it's a Canon Rebel of some variety

I was discussing my dilemma with Stephanie (who my husband refers to as my "book buddy" since apparently a book club of two people doesn't count as a club) and she had been wanting to work on her photography skills, too. We decided as would work through a photography book together, and get together (via Google Video Chat) and discuss each week.

Last week was Shooting Flowers Like a Pro. A lot of the tips in the book require gear that I'm not ready to invest in yet (macro lens, tripod, etc - camera stuff is expensive!) but I'm trying to glean what I can from it.

My favorite side-effect of this project so far is that I got a bunch of fresh flowers on my kitchen table for the week. But I am also happy that it got me to play with my camera on one of the few bright days we've had this week, and I am looking forward to improving my photography, if nothing else just from using my camera more often!
